Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange data between a hosting server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the 2 sides is protected, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of managing a hosting account. The commands that could be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for instance, the possibilities are limited because you won't have root access to the machine, so you could only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etcetera. These are all actions which are executed inside the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like OS, there are a number of apps for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Web Hosting

SSH access is offered with all web hosting we offer you. With some of them, it's offered as standard, while with others it is an optional upgrade which you can add with a couple of mouse clicks from your website hosting Control Panel. You can obtain SSH access from the section dedicated to it in which you can also find the information that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could select the password which you will use and, if needed, you'll be able to change it with a few clicks from the same spot. All of the commands which may be used with our shared plans are listed within a help article alongside relevant instances. If the SSH access feature is allowed for your account, you shall also be able to upload files using your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is provided as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you may add it through the hosting Control Panel if necessary - even just for the current month. In either case, you could activate and de-activate the feature with a single mouse click from the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same location, you will discover the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you can easily enter the password that you would like to use, because it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you can also change it as frequently as you need. The full list of the commands which can be executed in a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a couple of instances. An extra function after SSH access is activated will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client that supports this kind of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

The VPS server solutions that we offer feature SSH access as standard, not as an additional upgrade or a function which you must activate. As soon as your new server is prepared, you will be able to connect and begin working on your content through the login details that you've entered throughout the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials shall be sent to you via e-mail too. As your VPS will be isolated from the other ones on the physical web server, there are no limitations as to what you can or cannot do via SSH. You'll be able to download, install and manage any piece of software which will run on a Linux machine, reboot your entire server or just a specific software component, and work with files, folders and databases with no restrictions. All you will need for this is a console or an SSH client on your end.
